Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick Review

If you play games (like Elite Dangerous) that have flight simulators, you need a joystick for a truly immersive experience. Whether you fly a helicopter, a spaceship or a fighter jet, a joystick in your hand will amplify the effects. Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is built for that purpose.

Space

If you have a very limited space on your desk, you will probably have a difficult time with Extreme 3D Pro. Though you need to plan the area for the joystick before you go ahead and purchase it; it occupies less space as compared to many other high-end models.

This one has a thrust control on the stick itself and does not come with a separate unit to control thrust.

Controls

Base

3D Pro has six buttons at its base. You can program these buttons easily for maps, gear, drops, jumps and so on.

As these buttons are lower on the stick, located on the left-hand side and might need you to lift your hand off, it is better to program these buttons for controls you don’t need too frequently.

Pull Trigger

The pull trigger at the top of the stick works great and the thumb button is just off the right of the stick. You can use the thumb button for the second weapon during your combats.

The Stick

You can not only use the sticks for the forward, backward, left and right movements but also use it for twisting, rolling, etc. When it comes to movements, you can expect your experience to be very fluid.

Top Of The Stick

You can use the four buttons at the top of the stick for various purposes such as secondary combat options, heat sink, etc.

Thrust Control

The thumb stick between the four buttons at the top will give you a perfect thrust control. Whether you need a fine control to dodge a missile or avoiding landmines, it works perfectly.

Can Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Replace Keyboard Entirely?

If the flight stick is programmed properly, you will probably don’t need to use the keyboard at all. However, if you need to chat with your teammates, look up missions, use cheat codes, etc. you will need to use the keyboard.

Pros:

  • The hand grip is pretty comfortable to use.
  • The buttons are positioned appropriately so you will always have every control at your fingertips.
  • The rapid-fire trigger works very well.

Cons:

  • The thrust slider at the bottom of the joystick either gives you full speed or cuts all speed. You cannot fine tune your settings for the thrust control.
  • The stick is large and padded at the bottom but you can always pull it too hard while gaming as it is not locked in any way.

Final Verdict

Overall, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is a nice joystick designed to give you a truly immersive experience without needing you to spend too much money.

There is a number of things like thrust slider, the space it needs that can be improved.

However, the stick, the pull trigger, the thrust control, everything works great and you can expect to have a satisfying experience with the joystick.
