COD: Black Ops II for PC Review

When I am not writing code or fixing PC issues, I will play the occasional PC game. I have long been a fan of the call of duty series. Besides the recent Modern Warfare 3, I have pretty much enjoyed all the COD games I have played. I recently picked up Call of Duty: Black Ops II for PC and figured I would give it a review.

Graphics

I thought the graphics for this game were pretty good. However, I thought that they would have been a bit better. I own battlefield 3, which came out well over a year ago, and and the graphics for BF3 are better than this game. I was hoping that Black Ops 2 would set a new standard in game visuals. In fact I started playing Call of Duty Zombies on Black Ops II to see how that was, and it was incredible. I actually found a site online which gave me all the tips and tricks to get through as many rounds as possible. Like whether a perk improves your guns or quickens your reload time (I would definitely try this as the zombies get faster and more violent in higher rounds!), and how to get constant access to the mystery box.

Game play

The game play is fast and fun just like any of the other COD games. If you liked the original Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2, you will like this game. The multiplayer offers many of the same modes you are used to like capture the flag, team deathmatch, headquarters, and search and destroy. There are also rumors that a few new game modes will be released over time.

Related to multiplayer gameplay, I thought that the maps for this game were very well done. One of the main reasons I didn’t like Modern Warfare 3 is that I thought the maps were unoriginal and one dimensional. I did not think this way about Black Ops II. There are maps that range from downtown Los Angeles to the surface of an aircraft carrier to the jungle in Myanmar. The good design of the maps makes for a fun multiplayer experience.

Servers

There were a lot of lag and drop issues with the original Black Ops. This is one issue that Treyarch did a great job addressing. Black Ops II uses dedicated servers for their matchmaking. This is a huge improvement over the peer-to-peer matchmaking that was used in older versions of COD. Treyarch provides and runs these dedicated servers and so far they seem to be running great.

One downside to this system is that there will be no community owned and run servers. At this point in time, you have to use the Treyarch servers. Even without community dedicated servers, this is still a huge improvement over the peer-to-peer matchmaking.

Single Player

I have only had the chance to get an hour or so into the single player, but so far the story is good, the game play is fun, and Black Ops 2 added player choice into the campaign. So, if you make a certain decision, you will get a different experience than another player who made the opposite decision. This makes for a fun and interesting campaign.

Final Impression

I was a little worried about Black Ops II after my awful experience with Modern Warfare 3. However, Treyarch put out a good game with Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who likes the COD series. It is fun, fast-paced, and was well done.

A longer srilytone if possible and more epic cutscenes. in multiplayer, easier respawning system because being spawn trapped in mw2 is too easy. maybe more randomized spawning or something that takes you closer to the where the action but without mutliple people ending up in one spot. A player controlled game system where you just don’t automatically join a game because usually when i join a game, its because people left as they were losing and i have to join the losing team. maybe where it asks if you want to join this game or not, or only join games that have finished or about to start so you can have a fair game. also let objective games be more like that. i c so many people who treat domination like team deathmatch and only go for kills letting us lose because we can’t hold or capture the flags. get rid of grenade launchers and commando, they make the game so easy for noobs that you don’t even need skill to play anymore. get rid of painkiller also, better maps. a map where it isn’t so open like wasteland that fighting is like sniping and ac130 will kill everything. or something so small that fighting becomes 1 sided with kill streak rewards like rust, maps where there are multiple levels or something, not a flat plain or an area with a few buildings. Was this answer helpful?
