5 Android Apps to Help Monitor Your Home

With the boom of Smartphone ownership in recent years, there has been an increasing number of home security systems that have joined forces with the app and Smartphone world to allow people to control their home’s safety from anywhere, at any time. People want to make sure that their homes are as secure as possible whether they are in or out, so installing alarms from companies like Verisure and having them connect to their smartphones is a huge plus.

If you think about it, this makes a tremendous amount of sense. What better way to monitor a security system or camera than via your Smartphone?

The relationship that Smartphone apps and security systems have hatched is a happy one. It has given way to a lot of great new apps that can help you to monitor your home’s safety, if and when you’re willing to purchase the hardware that goes along with it.

Here are a few of the Android apps that do a great job of helping you to protect your home’s autonomy:

1. DropCam

Dropcam is an app that works with the hardware that is sold aton their website and allows you to set up alerts when motion or sound is detected, talk with people in the house and stream live video over 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi.

The app also has a “DVR” feature where you can watch past recordings. Both the dropcam and the dropcam app are extremely well-designed for functional pairing.

2. TinyCam

TinyCam offers a free and pro version (the pro version is only $3.99). Pro has more features, but if you already own the camera, the free version will allow you to monitor your home and control your camera from anywhere that your phone works.

The app allows you to control digital cameras and to monitor up to 16 at a time. You’ll also have three camera layouts to choose from, with additional layouts available in the pro version.

3. RLWatcher

This is a pretty basic surveillance app that will record video, pictures and capture audio, as well as allow you to receive text message, phone calls or email alerts based on settings of your choosing.

4. DLink

The DLink 932L cameras are made to work with this app which supports multiple cameras and various sensitivity settings. As with most similar apps, you’ll be able to set alerts for motion detection.

5. Verizon Home Control

This is a room automation app by Verizon that allows you to control aspects of your house that go beyond just security cameras. Locking doors, turning lights on or off and setting climate while you’re away from your home, are all at your disposal.

Just about every aspect of your new construction homes Lehi Utah or elsewhere can be monitored and controlled by this app. The lock and unlock feature is particularly helpful in the event that you forget keys, or if you need to let a family member or friend in or out of your house when you’re not home.

This is probably one of the most complete home security apps available. If you’re able to get your hands on the right equipment, this is definitely one of your better options from Android.

If you have a smart gun safe, you may be able to link it to your smart home controller app so that only you may access the firearms in the event that you have to defend yourself, your loved ones or your property should someone who wishes you harm break into your property. If you don’t have a firearm for self-defense purposes but getting one has been on the cards for some time, you should first brush up on the latest laws and rules surrounding owning a gun. For example, concealed carry texas is likely different than it is elsewhere in the US, so it’s important that you educate yourself on the information relevant to your location before heading out to buy anything. Then, a gun safe that you can integrate into your home security should definitely be a consideration in order to keep your family safe, particularly any children that you have.

Extra Layer of Security

These apps all do a great job of allowing you to actually keep an eye on your home when you’re not there, hence adding another layer of security to your house and the valuables within.

Most companies offering security systems or surveillance cameras also offer a free app that works with each individual product, allowing you to do things like arm the system, check cameras or even lock doors and turn lights on or off. However, if you are wary about using technology for controlling your home, you can simply go the traditional way. For example, if you want to upgrade your entry security, you can simply contact locksmiths near you who can install, repair, replace, and re-key locks.

Anyway, those who are tech savvy might find this use of technology (to monitor homes) worthy!
