Print your Documents through your Smartphone

Today, we all are living in the era of Smartphones. As the phones are getting Smarter day by day, everybody is now looking to replace their PC and perform tasks on the phone itself. In this post, I will show you an interactive method by which you can print your documents through your Smartphone, no matter where you are. If you are away from Wi-Fi, you will need to use Mobile data for this. So let’s start.

The General Problem:

The technology of Phones has evolved quite impressively, however, still the link between the Printer and the Phone is not that productive and efficient yet. So, if you’re using Blackberry, Android, or iPhone you probably want to get some email attachments, pictures or even presentations printed that are on your phone. If you use one of the major platforms, there are always app’s that will create the link between your printer and your phone pretty well. However, the majority of those apps aren’t free. So let’s look at the free alternative to get the things done. In this method we will use the Dropbox Service.

DropBox to the Rescue:

For this, you will need a DropBox account, a Printer that is connected to a computer, and the Computer connected to Internet. We will use a special utility that will continuously monitor one of your DropBox folders for updates and any new files loaded onto that folder will get printed right away. You can send the File to be printed to your DropBox through any of your Mobile apps, from anywhere, and as the file downloads locally it will get printed. So follow these steps.

  • Ensure that you have DropBox installed and working, and that the PC is also connected to the Printer and internet.
  • Now, send the desired document to your DropBox. This can be done in a number of ways. Either you use the dropbox app for that. These are available for majority of platforms today, or you could simply upload the file using your email.
  • Download the eprint.zip file for Dropbox. It will create a folder on your Dropbox, named PrintQue, where all those docs will queue up to get printed.
  • Now, you’re almost done. We are ready to test this model we just set up. Try sending the files you want to print to this folder.

So this was a neat little trick that I think is the best, free way right now to get your files printed via your Phone. I Hope it helped. Check back to Domstechblog for more tips. 🙂

Not sure when this was written, but many times you can download your printer companies app to print from. Also, on iPhones, you can just use Air Print. Otherwise, if you are not using DropBox already, you are missing out in life!
