Android Voice Commands You Should Know

Just like knowing keyboard shortcuts for your PC, knowing android voice commands can really save you a lot of time when using your Android phone. For those who don’t know what I am talking about, with your Android phone, you can simply hit a button then give your phone a verbal command. The phone will then carry out an action based on the command you used.

Android Voice Activation

It is pretty simple to activate voice on your Android. First, look for the Google Search widget on your phone. Most phones come with this on one of your home screens. If this is not on your home screen, you can add the widget by going to apps->widgets and then adding “Google Search”. Now that you have found the Google Search widget, simply click the microphone icon to activate Android actions.

Now, that you know how to use Android Voice Actions, lets look at a few things you can do with it.

  • Make a phone call – You can do this by saying “Call name“.
  • Get Directions – You can get directions by saying “Directions to destination“.
  • Activate Navigation – You can activate navigation by saying “Navigate to destination“.
  • Send a Text – You can send a text message by saying “Send Text To name, message“.
  • Send an Email – You can can an email by saying “Email name, message“.
  • Map a location – Get a map of nearby points of interest by saying something like “Map coffee shops”
  • Open a browser and go to a website – Say “Go To website“.
  • Run a Google Search – You can run a Google Search by simply saying what you want to search for. Here is an example to find baseball scores, just say “MLB Scores”.
  • Open an App – You can open an app by saying “Open app name“.
  • Set an alarm – You can set an alarm by saying “Set alarm for time“.
  • Start some music – You can play a song by saying “Listen to song name“.
