In this post, we look at a list of the best paid antivirus software on the market today. These days, with all the security threats to your PC, you know that you need a solid antivirus software. With all the options, choosing an antivirus can be a tough task. Ultimately, if you choose an option from this list below, you can’t go wrong as they are all solid choices. However, each antivirus has its advantages and disadvantages, let’s get right to it.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus

Kaspersky has been a top antivirus for many years now. Kaspersky offers top of the line real-time protection along with website and email security. This antivirus software works great with Windows 7 and 8 alike. Kaspersky is always one of the top antivirus software’s when it comes to detecting and removing any possible threats.

One more great thing about this antivirus software is that it runs unnoticeable most of the time. So, you rarely have to worry about conflicts with other programs or just general computer slowness when using Kaspersky.

Norton Antivirus

Norton Antivirus from Symantec is another top tier antivirus software. Norton antivirus provides comprehensive protection. It detects and eliminates viruses, stops online threats, defends against online identity theft and safeguards your important information and files from damage. Along with this comprehensive protection, Norton also does a great job and finding and stopping any threats when they do come up.

Norton also comes with a few extra features such as an automatic backup feature and a data usage monitor. One small complaint that some users has is that Norton can be too intrusive and can conflict with programs that are truly non-threats. If you are a “better safe than sorry” type of person, then Norton is right for you. Overall, this is a solid antivirus from a solid company that you can’t go wrong with.

McAfee

McAfee antivirus is the last antivirus we are going to cover on this list and it is another solid piece of software.  McAfee does a solid job keeping your PC clean with its top-notch real-time protection, vulnerability scanner, and its malicious ads blocker. One more great thing is that if you have multiple PCs to protect, McAfee offers good prices on bulk plans.

The one complaint of most users is that software can be a bit too intrusive to the point where it may slow down your PC a bit, especially if you have an older machine.

Honorable Mention

The above 3 antivirus software packages stand out from the rest of the pack for one reason or another. However, I did want to give Honorable mention to a few other solid antivirus programs. Trend Micro Titanium and AVG paid Antivirus are also quite solid all around. If you are currently using or plan on using Trend Micro or AVG, then you should be in good shape as well.

    Hey Dom,

I’m curious of your opinion on free anti-virus services vs. paid versions? I currently just use AVG free/malwarbytes and I normally advise clients I’m working with to do the same. I know you’re an advocate of malwarebytes and it’s pretty much asinine for any user to not be using it. However, is it really necessary to purchase a version of “X” anti-virus software?

      Hey Scott,

Generally, I am a big fan of free anti-virus software, especially when paired with malwarebytes. I find that many of the free anti-virus software can often miss certain problems. Malwarebytes can usually fill this gap.

In my time giving advice, I have noticed that some people have trouble setting up and maintaining free antivirus+malwarebytes. For these less than tech savvy users, I will often suggest a paid antivirus as it is just an easier way to get good protection.
